 The full name of Barbie doll is Barbie Millicent Roberts. She is from Willows, Wisconsin and went to Willows High School.

Her official birthday is March 9, 1959.

  The history of how Mattel got it's name: Ruth and Elliot Handler started Mattel Creations in 1945 with Harold "Matt" Matson, whose last name was combined with Elliot's first name to form the word "Mattel".

Originally a small business enterprise with its headquarters in the Handler's garage, the company launched with just three pieces of shop equipment purchased on installment from Sears.

The first Mattel products were pictures and frames, and Elliot soon developed a side business in dollhouse furniture made from picture frame scraps. Matson eventually sold his share of the business to the Handlers, encouraged by the success of the dollhouse furniture, Ruth and Elliot soon shifted the company's emphasis to toys.

  Barbie doll's best friend, Midge, was introduced in 1963 and then again in 1988 as California Midge.

In 1991 Midge married Alan and in late 2002, Midge and Alan reappeared with their toddler son Ryan and a baby on the way.

  Over 1 billion fashions have been produced since 1959 for Barbie and her friends. More than 105 million yards of fabric have gone into making Barbie doll and her friends' fashions, making Mattel one of the largest apparel manufacturers in the world.
